Adios Ricky Ponting….!!!

Ricky Ponting

It was undoubtedly a huge loss for the Australian cricket team as Ricky Ponting played his 168th and final Test match for Australia on Friday.

Ponting, 37 with a batting average of 51.85 in 17 years departed in a more Australian way than Waugh, who is often called as the typical Aussie.

Though, Ponting wasn’t able to call up the fairytale end he wanted in Perth, with him posting scores of only four and eight in his final test. However, he was given a guard of honor from South Africa’s players when he made his way to the crease on Monday for the last time. Also, after South Africa wrapped up the victory and a 1-0 series success, Ponting was chaired off the ground by David Warner and Michael Clarke.

Giving up cricket sunk in fast for Ricky Ponting, however the sentiments took a short time to flow. He could not hide his feelings…………remember his anger when he was run out at Trent Bridge in 2005, also, his charm and candor when that series came to an end and his drive to make amends in 2006-07.

Ponting was able to crack some jokes as thinking about his 168-Test career, following Australia’s 309-run defeat by South Africa at the WACA Ground.

However at the end of his 16-minute press meet, when he took time to show gratitude to his family for their support, Ponting finally let the emotion of the event triumph over him.

Fighting back tears, Ponting had to pause a number of times to gather himself while admiring his wife and his parents for all the sacrifices they made in supporting him become one of the country’s best cricketer. It was a moving moment from a player who leads a very reserved life. A usual jovial Clarke also looked close to tears as he was asked regarding Ponting’s decision to retire.

Himself considered to be one of the best batsmen in the cricket history, Ricky Ponting has paid tribute to Sachin Tendulkar calling him as the best batsman he has played against.

Ricky Ponting’s legacy is vast and his batting and captaincy records are a proof of it.

Most exciting is what happens next….? As undoubtedly he will live a post-cricket life, resplendent with successful new ventures and expeditions.
